Logitech G502 Hero Review - The Gaming Mouse Always in Trend

Earlier this year we were talking about the top gaming peripherals professional gamers use, and all statistics show us that the most successful brand is Logitech. Today we want to take a look over the Logitech G502 Hero, the gaming mouse that became an icon when we talk about the G502 series and maybe the best option for quality/price ratio available on the market today. We are not just saying this, sales statistics show that this mouse is actually the most desired and purchased gaming mouse in the entire world! That must say something about this mouse, doesn’t it?

So let’s split the talk about the Logitech G502 Hero into some points:

What makes the Logitech G502 Hero so special?

Logitech has never shied away from out-of-the-ordinary products. Non-conformist, asymmetrical shapes that seem to be taken out of SciFi movies rather than from a store shelf. And yet the Logitech G502 Hero manages to offer an "abnormal" design for some. But it manages to be very elegant when you want it and we think the most important part is that it is very comfortable.

Logitech Lightspeed - Right; Logitech Hero - Left

We have days when we stay at the computer for 10 hours straight. The fact that the peripherals we use are important would be an understatement. And yet in the case of the G502, whatever model we used, it behaved exemplary. Yes, we use the wireless version of the G502, but it's not a big difference in everyday experience.

The G502 Hero uses the latest sensor developed by Logitech called, yes you got it, Hero. We compared this new sensor with the best of the best from PixArt, the PMW3389 and we can say that in everyday activities (which includes gaming of course), we could not see any difference.

Many have criticized Logitech for using their own proprietary sensors and switches for their mice but, if you ask us, it is an entire win for the company as it provides something unique for the gaming market and they can be/are very proud of it.

What does a solid built gaming mouse mean today, in 2020?

Finding a suitable mouse has recently become a rather difficult process. Either because of the very varied offer or because there are not many people who can recommend a single model that is good for everyone and everything.

This is how we get to the discussion about the build quality of the mouse. Maybe some of you prefer models with a perforated case like Glorious Model O or maybe you don't want something too complicated and you are satisfied with the classic shape made famous by Intellimouse and adopted by many other manufacturers later.

We tried everything, but the Logitech G502 has something special. We do not know what this is; maybe the shape, maybe the materials used, but even if we wanted to, we couldn't find a better replacement for our daily use.

The Logitech G502 Hero (like all models in the series) is made of very durable plastic. The grip is also very pleasant thanks to the rubber used on the sides, and the biggest advantage of this model remains in our perspective, the scroll wheel.

The Hero model, compared to the Lightspeed that we use as a daily driver, has a metal wheel that seems a little more resistant. It still keeps the infinite scroll function and the left-right navigation on the page. At least for work, it seems to be the best combination.

We use text and photo editors, and with this mouse, we can work on them without problems. And the good part is that at the end of the day, we don't have to take the gaming mouse out of the drawer; it’s already on the desk and we've been working with it all day.

Along with the scroll wheel, another advantage is the number of buttons on the mouse. Logitech G502 Hero has no less than six additional buttons (in addition to clicks) that you can customize from the Logitech G Hub application, exactly as you want.

Logitech G502 Hero Weight

We all like to be in control; to be able to personalize our gaming and work experience as we see fit. Sometimes you might feel the need for a heavier mouse, and the fact that the Logitech G502 Hero allows us to adjust it a bit as we want is a plus. Many would consider this mouse a "heavy" one, even without the extra weights, especially after using something lighter, but personally we don’t mind and we are sure that there are many thinking the same thing.

In addition, many still believe that wireless mice are not yet advanced enough for everyday use. Even if the statement is not true, we cannot condemn them, especially since a good one costs a lot of money.

For them, however, there are wired models, and the wire on it is very high quality. The wire is dressed in a dense sleeve that does not allow it to cling to the edge of the desk and is long enough to give you freedom of movement. As a footnote, however, it should be mentioned that it seems a little stiff and will tend to form some curves if it is tight for a longer period.

Does the best selling gaming mouse actually mean the best gaming mouse?

It would be a lie to say that the Logitech G502 Hero is the best mouse in the world. Especially in today's market where you have hundreds of models to choose from and in the end, everything comes down to preferences.

No, it's not perfect and we've met people who didn't appreciate either the shape or the weight, but it remains a formidable model. We think that the large number of units sold indicates rather a very good price/quality ratio and taking into account that the model in the review, with wire, is often reduced to less than $70, makes it a no-brainer for many.

Then there is the issue of notoriety; many buyers choose products based on recommendations, reviews like this, or the simple fact that their favorite gamer or streamer uses product X.

Hence the advantage of the Logitech G502 series. It has managed to conquer many users, and a good product is one that manages to meet the requirements of as many people as possible.
