Asus ROG Theta 7.1 Gaming Headsets - Headsets or Surround System?

Asus ROG Theta 7.1 Gaming Headsets - Headsets or Surround System?

Headsets, always a complicated topic. When looking to get a new one we always ask something like: which headset is better looking, or which one is the most comfortable, or which model sounds better? To make things harder we face texts like “Real 7.1 Surround“ or crystal clear sound. Well today we got our hands on a pair of headsets that offer what it claims, and the Asus ROG Theta 7.1 is not just a pair of gaming headsets with a catchy slogan, but actually delivers.

Don’t believe us? Let’s have a look over the Asus ROG Theta 7.1 and see how Asus managed to deliver on their promise:

ROG Theta 7.1 - Premium Packaging

The Asus ROG Theta 7.1 comes in a package that makes you feel more fulfilled after paying a little over $300 for a pair of headsets.

The package is generous, and the ROG Theta 7.1 comes with everything you need. We are talking about a pair of exchange cups, so you can choose between leather and textile. Both feel gorgeous, but considering the temperature lately, the textiles ones are better for a long gaming session.

In addition, if the USB Type-C connection doesn't suit you, ASUS has included a Type-C to Type-A adapter in the package so you can connect the headsets to a variety of devices. And so that not only you enjoy the sound at the highest quality, you also have a microphone in the box; and your party will thank you for it.

ROG Theta 7.1 - Build quality and specs?

Let's talk a little about the build quality of the Theta 7.1 headsets, and then talk about the specifications and what they mean in use. The ROG Theta 7.1 is made of the highest quality materials, and this can be seen with the naked eye. Until the first touch, you only realize visually that you don't have a pair of cheap headsets in front of you. The plastic used is robust, which gives the headsets strength.

The material on the cups and headband is very comfortable and pleasant to wear. But the cherries on the cake are the metal joints that ensure that you will not break these headphones too easily; not even if you're careless.

Enough about the build quality though. Let’s take a look at the specifications of these headsets because they have some very interesting features. We could fill in the lines saying that they are black and have threads or RGB, but we don't think anyone is interested in this aspect too much. Let's see what is special about ROG Theta 7.1 and how it justifies its price.

The first thing we want to talk about is the 7.1 surround speaker system. It uses ASUS Essence drivers and virtual subwoofers that provide a true surround experience. But a good set of speakers is not worth as much without the necessary amplification. For this issue, ASUS offers as a solution a DAC 7.1 with a SupremeFX S1220A audio codec.

ROG Theta 7.1 is a premium 7.1 surround-sound gaming headset that has 8 discrete Essence drivers along with powerful virtual bass for precise positioning and...

We have attached the video above to give you a graphic representation of what all that we said above means. We will continue here but we will also want to mention the USB Type-C connection. ASUS has managed to do something to please everyone. The ROG Theta 7.1 can be connected to anything from phone to PC or console. Better yet, you have everything you need in the box. And to make your opinion heard, you have a microphone with an AI background noise elimination system that does its job very well.

ROG Theta 7.1 - Sound Quality and comfort

The ROG Theta 7.1 is not just a pair of headphones created for music; there are already too many big players in that market. What Republic of Gamers offers is a completely immersive gaming experience and a balanced performance in any other scenario. Thus, we tested the headphones both in games and in listening to music and watching series.

On the audio and video side, the ROG Theta 7.1 excelled, and the music seemed to come to life compared to a pair of normal headphones. In addition, movies catch you even more strongly in the story when you feel the actors whisper in your ear. From this point of view, they pleasantly surprised me.

Then, like any normal person would, we played a few games. In atmospheric titles like Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, we shuddered like a child around the house when we heard a monster comming out of nowhere. After that, we put in a few laps of Project Cars 2 and GRID 2019. Well, here we remembered why we like muscle car engines.

In the end, we did the ultimate test. We assembled an army of five boys, and entered a competitive CSGO match. We don't know how excited the opponents were that we heard every reload and noise, but hey, that's why there are gaming headphones.

ROG Theta 7.1 - Pros and Cons

Well, we saw that there are a lot of things to love about the ROG Theta 7.1, but something must be off with them? And of course, there is.

The ROG Theta 7.1 delivers a great and powerful sound. Maybe too loud in some cases. We don’t know exactly what the problem is but in our tests the volume seemed on its own., but we think is because of the software that did not leave us a good impression at all.

Another thing we didn't like was the cable and the weight. Yes, we understand, they are premium headphones and they need a separate wire on each headset, plus the technology in them weighs something. But we can't get over the feeling of suffocation that we had because of the two wires that hung close to the neck. Maybe we used earbuds too much in the past?

They are very heavy headphones, and the thick and rigid cables do not help at all. If on the side of audio quality and sound spacing, they are A++ headsets, but when it comes to comfort we were disappointed. ASUS could work harder on this aspect as well, but for what they are, the ROG Theta 7.1 is worth the five-minute break in which you leave your head free between gaming sessions.

Conclusions

We will not get our hands on such a pair of headphones every day. That is clear! For this reason, the ROG Theta 7.1 deserves our attention and the attention of those interested in a pair of premium gaming headphones, which can fit very well in any scenario.

Do you want to play? Sure! Feel like listening to that new album? Get out of here and listen to it surround! Feel like watching series at three in the morning? Don't torment your neighbors and the audio quality is still high.

For these points, we have to give the Repulic of Gamers a big thumbs up and to appreciate the audition time spent with these headphones on.
