3. Secretlab Omega Racing Gaming Chair
Vertagear's SL5000 was previously our favorite racing gaming chair. The understated logos, premium build quality, and remarkable craftsmanship were things we really took notice of. After testing Secretlab's latest Omega chair, it's clear other manufacturers have been paying attention as well. The Omega is one of the best-made chairs we've tested. From the casters to the base, to the lift mechanism, armrests and backrest, Secretlab has clearly used some of the best materials available.
The chair features high quality cold cured foam which provided somewhat firm support at first but became very comfortable after longer periods of play. What really made the Omega stand out from the crowd, it's the included velor memory foam lumbar pillows and head pillows. They were so comfortable that we could easily fully recline the chair and take a nap if we wanted. If you're looking to treat your butt with a chair that will really last a long time, the Secretlab Omega is worth every penny.
4. RESPAWN 200 Gaming Chair
While not the cheapest gaming chair you can find, the RESPAWN 200 is priced at a very reasonable price (somewhere around $300). The design certainly brings a lot to the table, but will likely be a divisive point for some. There's a lot of plastic, including the base, but we've found the build quality to still be better than some more expensive options we've tried. Beyond the look, what really impressed us with the chair was its comfort.
This shouldn't be too surprising since the manufacturer has been creating ergonomic office furniture for quite some time now. What sets the RESPAWN 200 apart from the competition is its reinforced mesh back. Combined with the leather seat cushion, the chair remained very comfortable and cool during our extended gaming sessions and offers excellent value for money.
5. Noblechairs Epic Genuine Leather Armchairs
The EPIC series from Noblechairs is another of the most comfortable chairs we tested. Marketed as a luxury office chair, it features high-quality materials to mimic the interior of a luxury car rather than a race car. The Epic Genuine Leather we tested is the first gaming chair to be made from genuine leather.
It's by far the most expensive racing chair we've tested, but it's clear that Noblechairs have spared no effort when it comes to luxury materials and design. Much like the Secretlab Omega, the Epic Series features a sophisticated tilt/height mechanism that allows you to fine-tune your comfort and rock back and forth on the chair. It may be pricey, but genuine Epic leather is about as luxurious as racing seats can get.
6. NeueChair Gaming Chair
If you're the type of person who values functionality over flash, the NeueChair is a great option. Which isn't to say it isn't stylish – quite the contrary, the NeueChair comes in sleek chrome/silver, obsidian or gloss, both with soft and bold curved supports on the back and attractive black mesh.
But more importantly, the NeueChair is built to last, with a heavy and sturdy industrial construction. Even the weight of the chair in the packaging indicates that it is a solid piece of carefully constructed industrial art: it is heavy and substantial.
Assembly is a cinch, as it comes in two discrete pieces and all you have to do is insert the casters and push them together. And nearly every aspect of the seat is adjustable, from the armrests (which you can move three-dimensionally to perfectly fit your elbows and forearms) to the adjustable lumbar support system which lets you change the height and depth of the case. This is one of the best office chairs I've had the pleasure of sitting in, and if you can afford the hefty price tag, it's well worth the investment.
7. Steelcase Leap Gaming Chair
The Steelcase Leap is one of the most iconic modern chairs with a price to match its performance. Wirecutter named it the best office chair a few years ago, but we prefer the new Steelcase Gesture for several reasons. First and foremost, the holy smoke feels good. If your eyes are still watering at this price, know this: just as we enjoyed the other chairs singled out here, none of them came close to gesture comfort.
Imagine your buttocks and back perfectly enveloped by the giant, ever-loving hand of your chosen deity. This is what the Gesture looks like. Or, as it was called among us testing it: "The Dream Chair" Anyone who spends a lot of time in a chair should seriously consider splurging on it. The high price allows you to get a lifetime warranty and enjoy a more comfortable butt hug than usual.
8. Herman Miller Embody
If money really isn't an issue, Herman Miller has the exorbitant Embody. This is the highest end chair we've tried. Seen from behind, its dramatically shaped backrest has a biomechanical look that seems to come straight from a sci-fi cockpit. According to its creator, “embodiment is so advanced that it lowers your heart rate and reduces stress by stimulating the flow of blood and oxygen while you sit.”
We can't confirm this, but what Embody's flexible matrix design really delivers is superb lower back support. The upper works like a fancier version of the OM5, automatically adjusting to your posture and sitting position.
The pleated fabric used for the seat material also stays pleasantly cool during extended gaming sessions. The Embody is clearly a great chair, especially if you have lower back issues, but the hefty price tag means you might end up spending more on your chair than your actual gaming PC.
9. Office Master OM5
At first glance, the Office Master OM5 sounds like the snake oil of seats. Marketing materials describe it as "a self-weighting chair that intuitively responds to a wide range of weights and sizes without the need to manually tension it" Essentially: don't worry about all those levers and knobs on the other chairs, this one will magically find what your butt and back need, no problem. Our skepticism didn't last long, however, because when it comes to OM5, to sit is to believe.
There are some manual adjustments possible, but all the magic happens around your back and hips. When you lean back and apply pressure, the seat moves forward while the back tilts in response, articulating smoothly thanks to the wheels on glides that work like those of drawing sliders Office.
It takes a bit of getting used to, but switching from standing work mode to relaxing while playing or watching quickly becomes a breeze. If you want comfort and don't want the hassle of levers and adjustments, the OM5 is one of our favorites because it gives you high-end quality and comfort at a mid-range price.
10. Office Star ProGrid
The Office Star range of chairs may not look worthy at first glance, but customer reviews are consistently good. We really like the ProGrid Back Managers chair because it offers the kind of adjustment usually only found on much more expensive models. Thanks to its imposing set of levers, you can adjust the height and inclination of the chair, and slide the seat forwards or backwards.
The backrest can also be moved up or down, and the armrests can be raised or lowered and slid back and forth until you find the perfect position. It may take some time, but once adjusted to your liking, the chair becomes incredibly comfortable. With so much customization, the ProGrid is a strong choice, and very hard to beat at this price.
