PlayStation 5 - Official Launch: Games, Specs and Everything You Need To Know

We witnessed something that we think will change the rules of gaming when it comes to consoles. Sony hosted a launch event for the PlayStation 5, and we were stunned. We had no expectations; we just thought we would see some games and some small talk, and that should be it, yey new PlayStation. Well, it wasn’t the case. We were left with no words to describe how we felt, and we are not sure how to describe everything. But one thing is for sure: we felt like a child on Christmas morning! But enough talking, and let us tell you everything that happened at the PlayStation 5 official launch event.

What we are going to talk about in this article:

  1. PlayStation 5 Console Design, Hardware Specs and Different Variants

  2. PlayStation 5 Games and Gaming

  3. PlayStation 5 Event and Conclusions

PlayStation 5 Console Design, Hardware Specs and Different Variants

The PlayStation 5 has been shrouded in mystery until now. Some said it would be huge and ugly, others said it would not be ready. Well, Sony surprised us all. And the best part ?! There is not just one model, but two: a classic one with Blu-Ray and one without an optical drive, which will be based only on digital titles. A logical and very good move from PlayStation.

The presentation confirmed once again the hardware features. From 3D Audio to support for Ray Tracing and the super fast SSD that Sony boasts. PlayStation 5 will be a very interesting console from this perspective, but we still think it will be under Xbox Series X in terms of performance. Here are the complete specs of the PlayStation 5":

  • CPU: AMD 8x Zen 2 Cores at 3.5GHz (variable frequency)

  • GPU: Custom AMD RDNA 2 - 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (variable frequency)

  • Memory: 16GB GDDR6/256-bit RAM, 448GB/s.

  • Storage: Custom 825GB SSD.

  • Expandable storage: NVMe SSD Slot, USB HDD support.

  • Optical drive (optional): 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray

On the design side, Sony won the battle from our point of view. Where the new Xbox looks more like a PC, the PlayStation 5 looks like a console; a piece of hardware that completes a multimedia setup and attracts attention. We really like the unconventional shape and we think that only now, the new DualSense makes sense.

PlayStation 5 Games and Gaming

Let's talk about the games presented at the PlayStation 5 launch event. We'll talk about the big players and featured titles, but we won't forget the indie games that caught our attention either. We think that among the most interesting games presented are the following:

PlayStation_5_Games.JPG
  • Horizon: Forbidden West - Horizon: Zero Dawn was a masterpiece, and Forbidden West seems to take the story further. If the first one was to your taste, you won't know why you don't want it too.

  • Spider-Man: Miles Morales - I don't know who Miles Morales is and I don't care. After all the praise Spider-Man received, I'm really curious about what news this title brings.

  • Resident Evil VIII: Village - I've heard about Village recently and it seems that the rumors have come true. Where RE7 was scary, that would be his mom!

  • Gran Turismo 7 - I am a fan of car simulators; Do I have to say anything else to convince you that I don't miss Gran Turismo 7 when it appears on the PlayStation 5?

  • Hitman III - Agent 47 returns to his most personal mission so far and faces death.

  • Deathloop - If games like Thief and Dishonored tickle your senses, Deathloop seems to be the fatal combination of the two; on steroids and with a lot of action.

  • Demon's Souls - Personally, we are not very happy to die five times a minute, if you are a fan of Souls-Like games here, Demon's Souls comes as a nice Christmas present.

  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart - The classics return with even more adventures; this time with a twist in time and space!

These are the games that stole the face of the event and I think they will be among the most appreciated PlayStation 5 titles during the launch period. Of course, some of them will be multi-platform, but whoever presents them first wins.

But let's have a look at the indie titles that we found interesting, along with a few other games that I'm neutral about. Maybe I'm not interested, but maybe some of you find them great:

  • Destruction Allstars - A battle-royale game with cars, with a very catchy art style that looks full of action.

  • Ghostwire Tokyo - Discover the Japanese metropolis and the secrets hidden in its heart in a first-person full of character that revolves around the city.

  • Pragmatic - For a second I was scared and said it was releasing Kojima DLC for Death Stranding. Anyway, Pragmata looks good and I will definitely give her a chance if I get the chance.

  • Stray - A cat in a world of robots, where people seem to be a source of nostalgia and pain.

  • Project Athia - It looks like Horizon, it's like Tomb Raider, it comes from Square Enix and tells us Athia's story.

  • Kena: Bridge of Spirits - Tell me how you want it, but the kid in me winced when he saw the trailer for it. Those super FLUFFY issues conquered me completely and honestly, I don't care what the game is about. I want to see more pictures of those fleas!

Other games that were presented, are titles that didn’t sparkle much interest from our side are games that touch on topics that do not interest really interest us but maybe some of you will like them. PlayStation 5 will host them as well and we are sure they will have their audience:

  • Astro’s Playroom

  • Bugsnax

  • Godfall

  • Goodbye Volcano High

  • JETT: The Far Shore

  • Little Devil Inside

  • NBA 2K21

  • Oddworld Soulstorm

  • rETURN

  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure

  • Solar Ash

These are all the 25 games that Sony presented in this livestream. Works of art, interesting indies and games that will surely find their fans. One thing is certain: the wait until the launch day has become even harder with the sight of these titles.

PlayStation 5 Stream Event and Conclusions

If we said so far that Microsoft started strong and within a few months they presented us with almost everything that could be presented, Sony gave a wildcard. The PlayStation 5 has just proven that it doesn't necessarily matter who starts first, but who crosses the finish line.

Yes, we haven't reached a launch yet, but we can safely say that the Japanese company has recovered and given fans more information in an hour than Microsoft gave in a few months. We are hiped and we can hardly wait to get our hands on the new PS5 and start gaming!
