Acer ConceptD 3: A Laptop Created By Creators for Creators

Acer ConceptD 3, the starter of the ConceptD series, the little one of Acer's family, dedicated to content creators like its older siblings - the ConceptD 5, 7, and ConceptD 9, plus the full PRO range for each model mentioned above, offers increasingly advanced features, such as Thunderbolt connection, 100% AdobeRGB panels, high end RTX video cards, with and without Quadro, 4K screens with Delta E <2, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD and more.

Acer ConceptD 3 Specs

As mentioned, the ConceptD 3 is the smallest brother from the familly, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have a very good, decent configuration of gaming laptops too: Intel Core i7-9750H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 video card (Full Power, 50W versus the slower model with Max-Q having a TDP of 35W), 8GB-16GB DDR4 memory, and a 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD.

The IPS panel is the big advantage of this model: the screen is superb, with an extremely wide color space - we measured 100% DCI-P3, and an extremely small Delta E deviation , Delta E <2, worthy of the pretentious targeted group - content creators.

Acer ConceptD 3 Design

The ConceptD 3 design is a very successful one. Quality materials everywhere.

The lid, the bottom around the keyboard and the wristpad are made of aluminum. Everything is very robust. The keyboard is solid, it does not flambe and it does not bend to the strongest presses.

The keyboard is very different from pretty much everything that came our way, the key race is short, the trigger very fast - we would say it is ideal for gaming and for typing, once you get used to it - the keys are a little crowded at times, that and to make room for the numpad on the right.

In contrast, the lighting (the company calls it "Amber" light) is a very pleasant one - we would say that it is an orange light, for copper, a very suitable color for both day and especially at night.

The touchpad is a bit small, but to save it, at least it is taller than many other similar ones, because the keyboard has been raised a lot.

We also have a fingerprint reader, just below the numeric pad

Also in the design / ergonomics chapter we will mention the 180 degree folding screen, and the hinges quite firm and well built, which give you the feeling of confidence, well done, reliable.

The total weight of the laptop is 2.35Kg, a little big, but it is understandable since it is built from thick layers of alluminum. The laptop is of average thickness, between 20-23mm, but offers a chassis that does not bend, does not creak. It transmits robustness to you even when you grab it from one corner of the lower chassis, to carry it from one room to another, etc.

The laptop offers one LAN port, one HDMI port, four USB ports, one of which is USB 2.0 Type A, two USB 3.0 Type-A ports and one TypeC type, which is sufficient for any use scenario.

We do not have a card reader, which is strange if we think that content creators use cameras. But, with four USB ports, there is no danger that a fast USB card reader will not find its own port when needed.

The position of the power cord is somewhat frustrating, in the middle of the right side. If you have a smaller office, it may be a drawback, a disadvantage if you want to put a mouse on the right

Acer ConceptD 3 Battery Life

The ConceptD 3 comes with a 57Wh battery, although it does not look great, it has a long days autonomy: in Power Saver mode, in document editing (Wifi ON; illuminated keyboard, 30-40% screen, it takes more than 8 hours of operation, which is a lot more than the average of laptops available on the market.

Conclusion

ConceptD 3 is the first model in the ConceptD range that we had the opportunity to put to work and created a very good impression. Although it will not be cheap, it has a good, strong configuration, ideal not only for advanced photo-video editing, but also for gaming sessions.

Quality materials, rugged chassis, metallic, big day screen, even if FullHD, but fantastic colors, extended gamut, Pantone validated IPS screen, DeltaE under two, just the thing for professionals.
