Samsung Is Working On New QLED Technology

Samsung is preparing to launch in the not too distant future a new series of QLED panels, with a very interesting property. Each Quantum Dot of the screen will be capable of self-illumination, and as a result it should be able to extinguish on its own.

The new technological development is detailed in an article published in the journal Nature, and involves, among other things, the replacement of the toxic cadmium used in their creation with indium phosphide.

The new type of Quantum Dots has an endurance of around one million hours per 100 candles per square meter, but will be able to reach (theoretically) a level of lighting of 100 thousand cd / sqm. Of course, not with the same endurance, but it is still something.

By allowing its own illumination, the new technology will allow panels with a much better contrast to what Quantum Dots now offers. It might even come close to the performance that OLED can offer, but without the disadvantage of burning the image.

Samsung will invest around $11 billion to expand production capacity for this technology by 2025.

What I mean is that it is probably good that you did not give a wagon on a big QLED TV recently, to say the latest discounts, because you will have better alternatives on the market in the near future.
